The Catholic Bishop of Tombura Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala stressed that “commitment to peace must be the first in people’s hearts, given the multiple challenges citizens faces in some parts of Western Equatoria State.
He on Sunday asked everyone to unite in praying to the God of peace so that there is ceasefire and solutions can be found at the table of dialogue, Anisa Radio reported.
Bishop Hiiboro acknowledged that we are facing a “particularly critical moment in history” with the pandemic yet to be overcome and the resulting economic and social crises, hitting especially the poorest groups.
He advised leaders to take proper responsibility of the national resources in order to restore peace rather than using county’s money for luxurious life only.
The Catholic prelate calls for humanitarian assistance for the thousands of people who have been displaced due to the ongoing conflict in Tombura County.
He encourages Christians to work with their leaders in addressing critical issues and opportunities for peace and create a more just and fraternal society.
Bishop Hiiboro prayed for vulnerable people fleeing Tombura, for the dignity and future of young people in the greater Tombura County.
“In these troubled times that see Tombura residents seeking refuge, “I pray for the most vulnerable among them. I pray that many people will welcome and protect those seeking a new life”, he said.
Bishop Hiiboro added “I also praying for internally displaced persons in the country that they may have assistance and the necessary protection”.
The Catholic leader was speaking on Sunday during the Eucharistic celebration at St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Parish in Yambio.
