The World Health Organization or WHO in partners with European Union and African Development Bank on Wednesday handed over oxygen plant and two land cruisers cars to the Ministry of Health in Juba.
Dr. Fabian Ndenzo, WHO country representative says the plant and the cars are meant to support Covid-19 response team in South Sudan.
“The African Development Bank provided a grant to a tune of $4.2million to the government South Sudan through World Health Organization to support the covid-19 response through strengthening health system. Through this grant, WHO has procured the oxygen plant of which many of us have seen today”, he notes.
Minister of Health Elizabeth Achuei says South Sudan will no longer import oxygen from the neighbouring countries and save more lives within the country.
“Thanks to the African Development Bank, the installation of the oxygen generation plant is good news to the country and the people of South Sudan and marks the beginning of the county preparedness for the third wave of Covid-19. South Sudan will no longer be importing oxygen from the neighbouring countries and this means oxygen will be supplied to the facilities on time and more lives will be saved”, she admits.
The minister appreciates WHO and African Bank for renovating the third isolation facilities in Yei, Nimule and Wau to help save more lives and tackle the negative impact of Covid-19.
The speakers made the remarks during the handing over of oxygen plant and two cars to the Ministry of Health in Juba on Wednesday.
