The police authorities on Tuesday evening discovered a dead body of a seven-year-old girl lying at the shore of River Kineti in Torit, eastern Equatoria State.

Police spokesperson Major Justine Cleophas Takuru says on August 11, 2021 parents of the girl reported to his office that their girl fell into the River, radio Emmanuel reported.

He says the Fire Brigade failed to trace the body at the time the incident was reported.

“Yes the information was true, yesterday the body of the child was found at 5:30 PM we were having a report on eleventh of August 2021. The child was from Inyif Residential Area that she fell into the water, she was coming from home in the evening to River Kineti for washing and our brothers from the Fire Brigade Department tried their level best at least to recover the child, but did not find. All these days the body was not found and unfortunately yesterday at 5:30 PM we received the phone call from our brothers at the shore of the River that there is a body of the child, so we went and collect the body and we call the relatives too telling them that, we have found the body of the child”, Major Cleophas confirms.

The police spokesperson is urging parents to be cautious of their children by not allowing those below ten years to access water from the river.

He adds that parents should provide water for their children from nearby water sources like the boreholes.

“I am informing my brothers and sisters or parents/guardians not to take young children to River Kineti; especially children below ten years shouldn’t go to the River. There are a lot of boreholes in the residents, let them take water from it or adults should help them by fetching water to them, they should not bathe in the river, let them bathe at home. So I am urging my brothers and sisters to help us because responsibility is for all of us not only the mother or father, if you get a young child at the shore of River Kineti please, chase him or her to go back home let her collect water from the borehole for bathing!”, the officer pleads
