Parents in Eastern Equatoria State call for the need of more protection as child abduction frightens them on daily basis especially in Torit town.

Both mothers and fathers say the issue has interrupted their daily activities and created fear among school going children.

One of the women said “Children fear. They keep running here and there. They are not comfortable. They study while on pressure. One a child moves out, he or she is abducted. This issue is affecting us too much. I don’t know this government of these days. What can the government do? We need deployment of security personnel to arrest these abductors”.

Another mother said. “ If the government could know the places of these people, they could be arrested to relief us. Now our children, who are studying, are abducted”.

“If the government doesn’t look into it [abduction] very serious, especially children who stay far away from the security side, or those children far from town, then we are going to lose many children. When pupils are going to school, they have to be escorted and it is now creating a lot of inconvenience in the family because instead of doing other work, parents have to escort their children and this is waste of time”, one of the fathers warned.

The police authorities in Torit responded that they have placed security personnel in all school premises to provide safety to pupils.
