At least one child has been rescued following the incident that happened on Sunday in Nakwa Payam, Kapoeta North County of Eastern Equatoria State.

The two-year-old boy was allegedly abducted together with his seven-year-old sister, after suspected abductors killed their mother, while they were returning home from their garden.

“Last week, children were abducted and their mother was killed. So after rushing to the scene, we confirmed two children were taken, one was a girl of seven years then the small one is a boy of two years”, said Kapoeta North County Commissioner Epone Emmanuel Lolimo.

Commissioner Epone adds that the young people of the area felt concerned and pursued the abductors, where the boy was rescued.

“So the youths were angered and the community was concerned about the incident, so the youth managed to see the foot-marks of the abductors. Then the foot-marks headed to that side of greater Pibor administrative area where they exchanged fire, and in the process, one child was rescued and they brought the child back and now he is reunited with the aunt. He is a total orphan, no father, no mother now.

He said the child is in good health, though he lost some weight.

“His health is okay, although he has lost weight because I think the child has not eaten for number of time”, said the commissioner.

Epone calls on the perpetrators to stop the bad practice.

The commissioner added “They should refrain from abducting children because if we want to minimize conflict, then this should stop. Let us embrace peaceful coexistence and we should not go to greater Pibor for revenge. We are already engaging the authority to take administrative follow up so that if this child is recovered, then be brought back and reunited with the family members”.

He said the child was rescued on Wednesday last week.
