The Collapsed Bridge of Imotong Centre, linking Imotong Payam in Ikwoto County to Torit, has cut off movement of vehicles and service delivery to Ikwoto.

Radio Emmanuel caller who identified himself only as Benjamin, said the bridge was destroyed by the heavy rains in July and it is the only bridge that connects Torit to Ikotos County.

“Because of too much rain even our Bridge has got broken that is really some damages that the rain has made. There is no linking up even from Imotong to Torit so there is no linking up because the bridge has already been broken since July till today. There is no way out that the vehicles can come from Torit direct to Ikwoto. there is no way assistance can be brought to the community. This is the main road and the busy road even in the Centre we need really some assistance to be done at least the road has to be reconstructed”, Benjamin requested.

Ikwoto County Paramount Chief, Joseph Lodongi said at least some young people have tried to manage the situation by surveying a local route for easy passage.

“We received a message from the grassroots that the bridge is actually washed by the water and then the youth tried to make another rout there so that there is a certain road. So that if the vehicles come, they can be able to move through that side”, said Chief Lodongi.

Lodongi adds that an appeal has been forwarded to partners for the reconstruction of the road and the bridge.

“I requested the partners so that they can help and work so that the road has to be maintained, more especially the potholes and the bridge there. So if the feedback comes, I think it will be good”, he added.

The chief made the Statement to Radio Emmanuel in Torit.
