President Salva Kiir Mayardit has pledged one hundred thousand United States Dollars, ten thousand South Sudanese Pounds and plastic chairs for the development of the Catholic Church in Loa.
Kiir’s donation is part of his recognition of the contribution made by the Catholic Diocese of Torit during the South Sudan conflict.
The President pledged during the lebration of the 100 years of faith at Our Lady of Assumption Parish Loa in the Western Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, the president also stated ten million South Sudanese pounds and plastic chairs in his pledge to the church.
He said the government did not forget the pivotal role played by the Church in bringing peace and some development to the war affected people.
“I have donated to this parish 10 million South Sudanese Pounds, I also have 100 thousand dollars, 300 plastic chairs for the church and two bulls. The achievement of the church in the last hundred years in our country, the church has come a long way, and its mission was tested on many occasions, not only that the church develop itself but also bare witness by standing with people during hard times. Many of us who were in the war time, we cannot forget how the diocese of Torit and Rumbek were pivotal in relief effort to the war affected people. We cannot forget the moral character in calling for peace among our people”, he promised.
Kiir encouraged both the church leaders and the government to cooperate for a peaceful South Sudan through implementing the revitalized peace agreement.
He said the implementation of the Agreement is the priority for a stable country.
“To the church leadership, please work with us in this journey of peace building; support us in our efforts to prevent spoilers from reverting the gains we have made in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement which we signed in September 2018”, Kiir’s added.
The president also called on South Sudanese who sought refuge in other countries to return and join hands in building the nation.
He sympathizes with the situation refugees undergo, citing government’s plans to facilitate the return and resettlement of the displaced persons.
“I appeal to residence of this region who are still in refuge to come back home. This appeal also goes to others across the country. I would repeat, come home and join hands with us to develop our country. We are aware of the challenges facing returnees but I still urge you to return home, with the three arms of government established, we shall work together to propose the programs that will support the return and resettlement of the displaced person”, Kiir added.
