Eastern Equatoria Women Push for 35% Implementation

Eastern Equatoria State women reiterated their desire to push and fully achieve the 35 percent affirmative action in the area.

Advisor on Legal Affairs in Eastern Equatoria, Siama Nartisio calls for cooperation among women in the rural areas to achieve the 35 percent.

“So we women are behind because in any place men do not allow women to talk, if you want to talk they would say you’re just a woman there but I want to tell you that within this 35%, we have the right. this time women are strong, even to this peace agreement we are the one who support this revitalized peace agreement to come out, without the support of women nothing would have been. Let us feel free, let us cooperate together, let us share what we have so that the message that we get from here we are suppose to take to the people in the rural areas”, she urged.

Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, Stella Iromo Vitale, urges women to work hard to realize their goal.

“The government have identified the 35 percent. For us women, let us work strongly we need to have unity in this state, women of Eastern Equatoria, we need to take the bad practices of cultural practice a bad culture like child girl compensation we need to demonstrate on that one. our girls are also been rape here which is not good so we need to stand strongly as women let us corporate together so we will build a strong Eastern Equatoria state”, said Nartisio.

Community Empowerment Progress Organization or CEPO representative, Mori Misak, says they are creating awareness on the provision iof the 35 percent in the Peace Agreement.

“So our main objective here is to shed light to increase awareness on those provision in the revitalize peace agreement that cover the 35% and therefore we would be looking at it together of how far have we achieve the 35% and is it meaning are we actively participating in the different mechanism, in the different institution as provided for created by the revitalize peace agreement”

The speakers made their remarks to Radio Emmanuel during the opening of a workhop organized by CEPO.

It was under the theme “Working Together for Gender Equality in South Sudan” at Torit Guest House.
