The Financial Action Task Force said in a report on Friday that it added South Sudan to ‘grey list’ of countries under increased monitoring to counter money laundering and terrorist financing.

The report said addition of South Sudan, Haiti, Malta and Philippines brings to 22 countries currently under increased monitoring by the intergovernmental watchdog.

According to Sudans Post, South Sudan government officials did not give comment.

The report said inclusion on the list can have negative consequences, making it more difficult to attract foreign investment.

On Friday, the Financial Action Task Force removed Ghana from its grey list.

The FATF did not add or remove countries from its “blacklist” including those that exert efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

It urged nations to take steps to apply measures to protect the international financial system from risks from blacklist countries.
