United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Director for Human Rights Division has called for total peace to prevail in Yei River County.

The call came during a meeting with the religious leaders in his first visit to Yei to assess the situation, Radio Easter reported.

Musa Gasama urges parties to the agreement to adhere to the signed deal and respect human rights.

He appeals to both the government and opposition forces in the bushes to stop the clashes reported in some parts of Yei to allow people carry out their daily activities peacefully.

Gasama notes that the objective of his visit to Yei was to familiarise himself with the government, religious leaders and humanitarian organisations to understand the context of the situation facing the people.

Another objective includes putting in place advocacy strategies to support the peace initiatives undertaken in Yei to ensure protection of civilians, adds the UNMISS human rights division director.

He encourages cohesion, reconciliation compliance to the peace agreement in order for peace to be felt in every part of the country.
