Archbishop of Juba Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla congratulates the national government headed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit for appointing members of the National Legislative Assembly.

The Assembly consists of five hundred fifty members as stipulated in the Revitalized Agreement signed in September 2018, Radio Emmanuel reports.

Archbishop Ameyu congratulates all the new parliamentarians and urges them to commit themselves fully to their duties.

“I would like to congratulate the government of Salva Kiir Mayardit for having reconstituted and expanded the parliament, congratulation to each member of parliament especially from Eastern Equatoria, I would like to pass my appreciation for this new Revitalized Peace Agreement that you have as members of parliament in your hands and I certainly know that you have a new mandate as members of parliament at the national level, it is time for you to commit yourselves to your duties as members of parliament”, he advises.

The Catholic prelate appeals to the members of parliament to work and represent their people from their different constituencies.

He says peace cannot prevail in the country unless people commit themselves in building peace.

“This new task that you are assuming is not going to be just like before, but I would like to request all of you to commit yourselves to the people you are representing, this revitalized peace agreement this time is not only for you to be a member of parliament or minister but it is for you to commit yourself to the people you are representing and so it is a great task for you to see it carefully to begin to work for the betterment of the people of South Sudan, this peace cannot be there unless people commit themselves on what is the building of peace”, he pleads.

The Archbishop urges the parliamentarians to collaborate and embrace unity so as to reinforce peace.

He prays for wisdom and courage to all the newly appointed national members of parliament.

The building of peace will be done by you as parliamentarians and you are the ones to disseminate peace to all people of South Sudan because you hail from different parts of South Sudan. So as members representing your constituencies, I invite all of you to work for a common good so that this peace will be strengthened and will remain with us as a difference of signing this agreement. So may God bless you in the new assignments you have and may God give you wisdom and courage to forge unity together in the parliament so that you are able to move ahead with all the problems of South Sudan”,

The Catholic leader blesses the MPs.
