Citizens in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State have blamed South Sudan’s top leaders for mismanaging the country’s resources.

The people were reacting to Chapter four of the revitalized agreement on the resolution of the conflict in South Sudan, which talks about Resources, Economic and Financial Management.

One of the nationals accuses the leaders for misusing the funds meant for the implementation of the peace agreement.

He wonders where the oil and none- oil money revenue goes to.

Another citizen says the country is blessed with enough resources but those holding government’s positions misuse the public funds for their own self-interest.

If one gets a position he or she won’t care of the suffering citizens. People now days in South Sudan yarn for government top positions to gain riches and that is corruption. Our resources are plenty but management is the problem because our leaders think of their homes and sending children abroad for studies”.

Meanwhile, another person argues that nothing new will happen in the country as long as the same faces of corrupt government officials keep holding positions.

“The issue of corruption in south Sudan was earlier on reported and evidenced by the seventy five names published in the American report on corruption in South Sudan. It is the same individuals who keep on corrupting the system in the country. We have abundant resources but our leaders are taking the insecurity as an opportunity so the issue of accountability becomes difficult”.

The citizens were expressing their views during the “South Sudan we want program” on Radio Easter in Yei.
