Thieves broke into Bishop Mathew Remijo’s room and disappeared with undisclosed amount of money both local and hard currencies, two laptop computers and wireless mobile Motorola, Fr. Germano Bernado Baku, Vicar-General of Wau Catholic Diocese told the media on Monday.
He confirmed that the incident happened between 4 to 5 PM when the Bishop went out and after his return discovered the house was not in order and told the incident to some priests.
Fr Bernado said similar incident happened during the time of late Bishop Rudolph Deng Majak.
He also confirmed that they have handed the issue to government authorities to trace and arrest the thieves.
Western Bahr el Ghazal Acting Governor Arkangelo Anyar Anyar said state authorities have already formed a committee to follow the case through the vicar general to arrest the criminals.
He said they directed security organs to follow the thieves and bring the culprits to face the law.
Anyar Anyar who is the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, warned that those who will be found in connection to the incident will face the law without favour.
Pope Francis last week appointed Catholic Bishop of Wau Mathew Remijo Apostolic Administrator of Rumbek Diocese after Bishop-Elect Monsignor Christian Carlassare was shot in April and was flown to Nairobi Kenya for further treatment.
