Priests in the Catholic Diocese of Torit condemn shooting of Bishop-elect for Rumbek Catholic Diocese Monsignor Christian Carlassare by armed men in Rumbek.

Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Torit Fr. John Sebit says insecurity such as unnecessary attacks and shooting should be stopped because it causes tension and fear in the state and around the country.

“These things should not occur again, not in Rumbek  a lone even here in catholic diocese of Torit shooting sometimes happen in our area here, ambushing people on the road, shooting people on the road and others things which need to be stop because it discourage our people because some people go for the services and may be, they are found ambushed on the way or killed on the road it give a bad signal to our place here so people may fear to move to very far to our places or to give services because you may fear that may be you will be ambush”, he said.

Parish Priest of Our Lady of Holy Rosary Fr Anthony Odoemelam mentions that the church does not support attacks on priests, brothers and sisters and its church members.

He encourages Christians to follow the scriptures in the bible that speaks about peace and harmony.

“As a church, it is un becoming and we don’t support what have happen, personally it does not promote the values of the church. it does not tells what the church stands for and so we as Christians we encourage all Christians to follow the gospel message and allow the gospel message to find a home in our life because Christ have come to liberate us, Christ have come to save us and as Christians we are supposed to be another Christ to one another and if we are not another Christ to one another, then we are lacking those Christians values that Christ have come to show us  and so I will call on all Christians to be another Christ to one another and allow the gospel message to find it rout in our life”, he says.

Fr Odoemelam urges the entire Christians in South Sudan to embrace unity because when the whole nation is united, the enemy will not have room to destabilize the country.

He says Christians must bear the fruit of life through Jesus Christ.

“My message to the entire Christians of South Sudan is to be united to seek and pray for unity because when we are divided the enemy will find a way to penetrate but when we are united, I don’t think the enemy will ever penetrate in our life. When we talk about the gospel values of our lord Jesus Christ to bear fruit in our life because it is not just enough to go to church, it is not just enough to carry the bible but we must allow the gospel values to bear fruit in our life”, the priest notes.
