The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Gender Esther Ikere is encouraging more women to join politics in a bid to narrow current gender imbalance in South Sudan’s political arena.
Radio Bakhita quoted her saying there are currently few women engaging in politics across the country.
Ikere said underrepresentation of women in the country’s politics has affected the implementation of the 35 affirmative action provided in the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.
The official spoke during the conclusion of five-day training in Juba on Saturday.
The workshop organized by the national Ministry of Gender Child and Social Welfare and partners brought together over twenty women leaders across South Sudan to be trained on peace, security and agenda advocacy.
