Eastern Equatoria State on Thursday joined the country in commemorating the Martyrs’ Day which celebrated annually every year
State Secretary for SPLM Suleiman Liling said commemorating Martyrs’ Day reminds the people of South Sudan about the heroes and heroines during the liberation struggle, Radio Emmanuel reported.
We gather here to remember our people who died in the struggle of freedom for the people of South Sudan as you see from the team of today which says ‘Freedom fighters never die John Garang die but the vision is still alive’. I could remember the time Dr John Garang died 2005. Dr John Garang’s helicopter crashed in new Kush and the wife, Rebecca Nyandeng said ‘I will not cry now, but I will cry later if the vision dies John Garang die but the vision is still going ahead’. So today we are remembering Dr John Garang and the rest of the heroes who lost lives during this struggles’, he recalled.
Liling pointed out that that it is important to recognize all heroes and heroines who died in the liberation.
Executive Director of Torit County, Solomon Ohson Ocuho urged youth to stand firm because they are the role models of the country.
He appealed to the young people to refrain from violence countrywide.
‘Youth be strong this is your government you have been born through the war and you grow during the war until peace came and you have witnessed. You lost some of your colleagues and now this government is going to be control by you, so you take peace therefore our war of today is going to be peace and development. We don’t want to take our people to war anymore the war is over you educate our people about peace’, the director appealed.
He added that there also be culture of peace, the culture of unity, the culture of love is paramount. You condemned mentality of cattle raiding and killing one another’.
Marty’s day is observed on July 30th for the remembrance of those who died during the liberation struggle of South Sudan including Dr John Garang De Mabior.
