The Minister of Defense warns soldiers in Owiny-Ki-Bul training center of committing sexual violence or rape against women instead of defending and protecting them.

Angelina Teny says role of the army is to value the dignity of South Sudanese but not violating the laws.

‘When you will hear that the army has committed crimes, abused women and children, looting people’s properties, the fingers are pointed at SSPDF, SPLM/A-IO and SSOA because of their operations’, Teny stresses.

However, the Chief of Defence Forces General Johnson Juma Okot, regrets that nowadays the army in Juba are also land grabbers instead of protecting people.

‘Senior officers in particular are involved in land grabbing. It’s not only the soldiers, this is not good for the army and not acceptable’, the General adds

He advises the organized forces to be conscious and stop looting and grabbing people’s properties.

Meanwhile SPLA-IO Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Gabriel Duop Lam, encourages the soldiers to obey orders and serve the nation.

He advises them to consider the uniform as their tribe but not politics.
