administration of Tonj Municipal Council have fixed the balance prices for vulnerable people to afford, disclosed Marko Manyang Mathiang, Deputy Executive Officer for Town Council of Malith Market on Monday.

He explained that his administration fixed the prices of dura and groundnut as the priority due to people’s demands.

Currently traders are selling one gallon of dura at 800 SSP which cannot be affordable to vulnerable people, he regretted.

Mathiang said Tonj Municipal Council decided to reduce one gallon of dura from 800 SSP to 680 SSP and raise one gallon of groundnut from 320 SSP to 680 SSP because it is less demand.

The official said organized forces will enforce the order effective from June 22, 2020 without excuse.

A trader in Malith Market James Malou, who sells dura and groundnut, said traders did not agree with the government on the reduction of prices because they bought their goods at high prices.

He explained that they want to get 20 pounds as a profit on one small tins of dura and one gallon of groundnut at 320 SSP.

Malou blamed government of not bringing goods to the local traders in order to sell at low prices.

It is not the first of its kind for the Municipal Council to reduce prices of local goods in Tonj.
