Chairperson of the South Sudan National Certificate Committee for Polio Eradication Rose Mapuor welcomed the certification of the country as polio free.
She described the achievement as a work well done at a time of difficulties.
The acceptance of the free status documentation does not stop the country from the polio free campaign, said Rose.
World Health Organization team leader for the South Sudan Polio Eradication, Sylvester Maleghemi, said the UN health agency has been spearheading surveillance on the virus since 1998.
According to the Ministry of health, South Sudan last recorded one case of wild polio virus in June, 2009.
