Executive Director of Support Peace Initiative Development Organization or SPIDO Wocan Savio Lazarus is calling upon the government to enforce law on schools that have resumed operations despite closure.
He told Bakhita Radio that he is deeply concerned with the ongoing violation of covid-19 preventive measures.
Savio said it is a shock to hear that some learning institutions have resumed operations illegally.
The activist pointed out that some worship places are now operating normally in violation of the partial lockdown.
South Sudan closed all learning and religious institutions in March as a preventive measure against COVID-19.
As of 22 June, there are 1,882 confirmed cases and 35 deaths due to COVID-19 in South Sudan.
After the lockdown was lifted last month, bars and night clubs have also resumed normally in violation of the Ministry of Health and WHO’s directives of observing social distance as one of the preventive measures to reduce the spread of the virus.
