The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees or UNHCR calls upon government to include refugees in the national COVID-19 response plan.

UNHCR head of office in Jamjam Refugee camp of Unity State, Mesfin Degefu says inclusion of asylum seekers in COVID-19 response plan would enable them to enjoy the same benefits as host communities, Bakhita radio reports.

He adds South Sudan is currently hosting over three hundred thousand refugees across the country.

Degefu urges armed and political actors in the country to seek peaceful means of resolving conflicts in order to stop further displacement of people.

Mesfin stresses this year’s World Day of Refugees should encourage the people of South Sudan to join hands with refugees and help in the fight against COVID-19.

The annual International Day of Refugees is dedicated to raising awareness about situation of refugees throughout the world.
