South Sudan parties agree on allocation of states

Minister of Presidential Affairs says South Sudan parties to the peace accord agree on allocation of states on Wednesday.
 
Nhial Deng Nhial said during briefing to journalists that the Incumbent Transitional Government of National Unity or ITGoNU will nominate six governors, the Opposition or SPLM-IO will nominate three and the Opposition Alliance or SSOA to nominate one governor.
 
‘Matters pertaining to the composition of executive and legislature in the states shall be discussed and agreed at a later date’, he adds.
 
The minister says they are hopeful on the matters to be finalized within few days and nominations of governors to be announced soon.
 
Minister Nhial explains all issues related to the allocation of states have been resolved swiftly.
 
The allocation of states was one of the key issues delaying the implementation of the R-TGoNU despite the declaration of COVID-19 outbreak.
 
The former ITGoNU will have six states that is, Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Warap, Lakes, Northern Bahr El-Ghazal and Unity State, while SPLM/A-IO will have three that is Western Bahr El-Ghazal, Upper Nile and Western Equatoria states and SSOA  will have on which is Jonglei State.
