Police in Torit Eastern Equatoria State special protection unit says they have recorded increase in number of sexual gender base violence or SGBV since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Acting Director in the special protection unit, Maj. Betty Konyio worries that cases of rape may continue to increase as many people are idle due to lock down.
She adds many families also undergo domestic violence which is a challenge that leads to rape in communities.
Director Betty says the rape survivors are young girls’ ages between fourteen to sixteen years.
The Acting Director was speaking to radio Emmanuel during an interview on Tuesday in Torit.
