United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS in collaboration with ZOA on Friday handed over a dignified women inmates’ facility to the leadership of Yei Prison.
ZOA Project Education Officer Sitima Joyce Justin says the building is to provide them with dignified living facility to improve the condition of women inmates.
She says they gave the women inmates 20 mattresses, 20 pairs of bed sheets, office furniture, chairs and tables and psychosocial support materials.
Joyce explains that the services aim at helping women inmates recover from the trauma they are going through in the prison.
Yei UNMISS team leader, James Mugo, says the project will strengthen the rights of women prisoners in Yei.
The UNMISS Yei team leader mentions that the improvement of Yei prison will also help promote the rule of law and support the operation of South Sudan’s law institutions.
Meanwhile, former Yei State Administrator Amule Felix Sosthene, comments that the project will act as a learning opportunity for leaders to emulate.
The speakers made the remarks during the handover ceremony of the dignified women inmates’ facility at the prison on Friday in Yei.
