The South Sudan People’s Defence Force or SSPDF said a military official linked to Wednesday’s violence in Sherikat has died.
SSPDF spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai Koang said Lual Marine died on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during the violence which left five people dead, Bakhita Radio reported.
Lual is a relative of President Salva Kiir.
Lual’s bodyguards allegedly shot the five people dead and injured seven others following a disagreement over a disputed land in Sherikat-Bor Park on Wednesday.
The killing of the civilians sparked protests in Juba and Bor.
Civil society organizations have also asked the government to punish perpetrators of the crime.
