NIMARO, a women group in Magwi County, Eastern Equatorial State is embarking on business to earn a living during this covid19 period.

According to Radio Emmanuel, in March this year, the group consisting of 15 members received support of 200,000 SSP from Peace Link Foundation to help them cope up with the economic situation through livelihoods and welfare of returnee’s activities.

Some members of NIMARO group expressed their excitement and urge for more financial support to strengthen the wellbeing of women and the vulnerable groups in the county.

One of the beneficiaries, Miss Atto Irene, who acts as information officer of the group said the support has made life easy for widows.

‘Peace Link Foundation came and trained us here in Magwi then we told them our problems since some of us here are widows living without husbands, but others do have so they replied us positively by granting the little help which has also helped to the level which was needed. But we are still urging them to grant more help for us women since we are still moving up and for the betterment of our lives’, she said.

Another beneficiary Aling Vicky said they have invested in small scale business to put food on the table for their families.

‘We have been supported by Peace Link Foundation, it has made us to gain strength since now some of the group members have invested in small scale business and now we are still crying, but let it continue helping us because what they have given us has allowed us to maintain our homes in terms of feeding’, she acknowledged.

Peace Link Foundation Executive Director Charles Okullu said his organization is supporting returnees in gender-based violence in Magwi County, Nimule and Ikotos with the support they are getting from UNDP.

He clarified that the strategy is to improve the livelihoods of mothers and young girls amongst communities
