Chief of Defence Forces of South Sudan People’s Defence Forces or SSPDF General Johnson Juma Okot visited the internally displaced people or IDPs of Mukaya sheltering at Gezira site in Yei.
He recalled that during the liberation war, civilians were treated special by both government and opposition parties, but now both army and hold out groups target them causing displacement and destruction of properties, Radio Easter reported.
General Juma told the displaced community that when took over the seat; he realized that areas in Yei, Rumbek and Pibor need the power of God and disciplined security personnel to protect the civil population.
The CDF acknowledged that during the war with the Arabs, people of Yei contributed a lot in supporting the army by providing food and offer boys to be recruited to the army which brought independence to the country.
Since the army come from different backgrounds, others have the behaviour of theft, he said.
General Juma warned those soldiers who are mistreating civilians by raping at gunpoint that they will face the law when caught.
The speakers made the remarks on Saturday at Gezira IDPs site during the visit of the South Sudan Defence Force Chief of General Staff in Yei.
