The United Nations children’s agency, UNICEF says it has facilitated release of ten child soldiers from a military barracks in South Sudan.

The children aged between 15 and 17 years, were freed from training centres of the unified forces in Juba.

The UN agency say the release of these child soldiers were possible with support from the national disarmament and demobilization commission or NDDRC, the UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS, and South Sudan People’s Defence forces, SSPDF.

UNICEF says the nine boys and one girl were taken to safe home while they continue to trace their families.

UNICEF estimates that hundreds of children remain in the custody of armed groups across the country.
