A civil society activist is calling on South Sudanese government to scale up testing of COVID-19 in the country.

Speaking to Bakhita radio, Executive Director of Support Peace Initiative Development Organization or SPIDO, Wodcan Saviour Lazarus says the current testing capacity of public health laboratory is very low.

Last week the ministry of health revealed that over five thousand samples were awaiting tests.

Lazarus cautions the public against visiting COVID-19 positive patients admitted at isolation centres.

The country is currently recording increasing number of new infections on daily basis.

In the past weeks, First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar, Defence Minister Angelina Teny, and Information Minister Michael Makuei, disclosed their status after testing positive for the virus.

South Sudan’s confirmed cases now stand at 994 with 10 deaths and 6 recoveries.
