World Health Organization or WHO and partners supported the Ministry of Health to upgrade and equip Dr John Garang Infectious Diseases Unit to provide treatment for severe and critical corona virus patients.
The Incident Manager for COVID-19 Dr Angok Gordon said the expansion of Unit that began on April 13 has increased the bed capacity from 24 to 82.
He said the new 82 bed capacity treatment unit has a temperature controlled dispensing pharmacy and a fully equipped laundry to boost infection, prevention and control.
Dr Gordon said corona virus pandemic is a widespread public health crisis, which requires significantly improving access to comprehensive clinical care of the expanded Infectious Diseases Unit to address it.
WHO Representative for South Sudan Dr Olushayo Olu said public health emergencies put health systems and their ability to deliver services under strain.
He says as the COVID-19 situation rapidly grows, caring for prevention of the disease and patients in the safest manner possible is their top priority.
