Dozens of Women Rights activists staged a peaceful demonstration in Juba on Friday demanding justice for the rape of an 8-year-old girl in Juba last week.

The demonstration is to pressure authorities to act over growing cases of sexual violence in the country, Radio Bakhita reported.

Executive Director for Crown the Woman, Riya Williams Yuyada, told journalists during the demonstration that women are often sexually abused by men against their will.

She said the procession demands an end to impunity and justice for survivors of sexual violence.

Riya called upon the society to treat women and girls with respect and dignity.

This is now the seventh case of such abuse in Juba and most of the culprits have walked free due to some sort of games played by the courts, explained Edmond Yakani, Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO.

He called on the Ministry of Interior and Justice to find solutions to such cases of abuse and bring those involved to book.
