Traditional courts are still operating in the defunct Torit state despite fears of Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to Radio Emmanuel on Wednesday, Paramount chief in Torit County Enricko Jacob Ogworo said the court is working according to the social distance required to prevent COVID-19 from further spreading.

He said the capacity of the court is too small to accommodate the attendance, but they are trying hard to observe social distancing rule.

‘Yes since this court was operating and during this Covid-19 had come and orders were given to us that people are not to be gathering in one place at least people gather and have to sit about two meters or meter and half if there is court we put chairs according to the distances then concerning about this Covid that other places congestion like our court here we have seen it is really difficult to put people in order contact cannot go’, said chief Jacob.

The chief said the court has no protection equipments like masks and gloves when handling cases.

He called on government or NGOs to support the court with protection materials to reduce the spread of the virus.

‘About protection measure we don’t have up to now we are just trained to protect ourselves and then the community, to teach the community but for protection we don’t have any way. What I can say to these people who trained us, we need them to support, to support us with just such things even to me to go and talk with community will need support’, the Paramount appealed.

The Paramount Chief further called on communities and the entire South Sudanese to keep social distance and wash hands constantly since it is the first medicine that kills the Virus faster.
