A priest in the Catholic diocese of Torit is encouraging Christians to believe in scriptures and recognizes Jesus Christ during the breaking of the bread.
According to Radio Emmanuel, Fr Matthias Ukpong said the scripture teaches about believing in God no matter their situations.
He adds Jesus is interested in uplifting his children from all harmful situations.
‘We rely on the scriptures because we are not living in the time of Jesus Christ. So the scripture is our guide to believe and hold on to. Jesus Christ will never leave us alone because he understands our situation he does not care about how unholy we are, but he is cares for us that he will lift us from any situation as his own instrument of God’s love’.
Fr. Ukpong reminded Christians that Jesus gave powers to the apostles to celebrate the liturgy in remembrance of his name.
The catholic prelate explains the priests are representing Jesus’ disciples.
‘When we attend mass we should always see Jesus in the breaking of bread because Jesus Christ on Holy Thursday gave the apostles power to go ahead and celebrate the liturgy in remembrance of his name. All the successors of the apostles who are the priest of today still do so. We should recognize God in scriptures and in the breaking of the bread because when we read the scriptures we encounter Jesus Christ.’
The Catholic priest was giving his homily on Sunday at Our Lady of Holy Rosary in Torit.
