The United Nations is taking disciplinary action against a staff member who failed to complete self-isolation and left the country without authorization.
In a press statement by the UN, the staff was in quarantine after it was believed he may have come into contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19.
He received one test that was confirmed negative and then left Juba on a commercial flight without the knowledge of the United Nations, the statement reads.
Since arriving in his home country, he has been tested again and confirmed to be negative for COVID-19.
The statement adds United Nations staff who fail to adhere to the requirements for testing and self-isolation will face disciplinary action because whether UN or members of South Sudanese communities it is vital to work together to reduce the risk of COVID-19.
The United Nations will continue to strictly follow the health protocols relating to COVID-19, work with World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health to combat the disease.
