Veteran Politician Edward Lino dies aged 74

Veteran South Sudanese politician and SPLM-IO figure Edward Lino Wuor Abyei died on Wednesday afternoon in the Indian city of Bangalore after a long battle with sickness since 2015.
 
Abyei Community in Western Bahr el Ghazal State in a meeting chaired by Alor Deng Kur, sent their sincere condolences to the people of Abyei and South Sudan in general for the great loss of one of the public figures.
 
Alor expressed his sorrow for the great demise of one of the great leader who was praised for his courage on the need for the people of South Sudan to decide for their destiny.
 
Late Edward has been sick since 2015 and was taken to several African countries for treatment, but all efforts went in vain.
 
The veteran South Sudanese politician was born in Abyei in February 1946 and studied at Khartoum University Faculty of Law; worked as an Editor at Nile Mirror Newspaper before joining the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement 1980s.
 
He was also the chairperson of SPLM in Abyei. Before 2013, Edward was the South Sudanese Co-chair of the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee (AJOC), and after the eruption of the conflicts in December 2013, he joined the main armed opposition group SPLM-IO led now by the First Vice President of South Sudan.
