South Sudan’s Ministry of Health refutes the report by World Health Organization early this month that there is an outbreak of Yellow Fever in Kajo-Keji.

The Undersecretary in the ministry Dr Makur Matur Koriom told CRN on Tuesday that WHO does not have the authority to declare an outbreak in the country because it’s government’s responsibility to do so.

He explains ‘they have plans to carry out vaccination in Kajo-Keji because in February there was an outbreak of yellow fever in Uganda side of the border’.

Dr. Makur adds the Ministry of health took random samples from people in that area and it turned negative.

The Undersecretary stresses to minimize the chances of people contracting the virus in the area vaccination campaign will be carried out.

Earlier this month the world health organization or WHO declared that there is an outbreak of Yellow Fever in South Sudan.

Two suspected yellow fever cases were identified in Kajo-Keji in the course of the investigation and the results was negative.
