Two days case management training on COVID-19 concludes in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State.
The training aims at equipping frontline health workers with knowledge on infection, prevention and management of corona virus disease.
Radio Emmanuel quotes national ministry’s chief of operation for COVID-19 Dr. Angelo Goup Thon saying the state has been prioritized for training because of to the reported case.
‘The Eastern Equatoria is the first state with positive case of covid-19 and that’s why the government prioritizes orientation and an overview of COVID-19 globally and at country level we talk specifically on the case management, we orient the front line health care workers on case management and how to collection, packaging and transportation of samples to the national laboratory. We have the capacity that is able to test covid-19 specific at the national level. The states can safely collect and transport samples to Juba’, he explains.
Dr. Thon says the country has only one laboratory for testing coronavirus cases.
He adds soon mobile laboratories will be availed to states to facilitate testing instead of sending samples to the national laboratory in Juba.
‘In South Sudan as a country we only have one lab that’s capable of confirming COVID 19 case that’s the public health laboratory in Juba. The government of Germany through East Africa Community donated about two mobile laboratories to the South Sudan. We are now finalizing the issue of training people to be able to operate this on standby so in a few weeks those laboratories will be ready for deployment,’ Dr. Thon stresses.
The Chief of operation for COVID-19 calls on citizens to adhere to the preventive measure of covid-19 for their own safety.
