Labalwa community sends locust away through beating drums

Community of Labalwa on Monday been brought to a tiring moment after locust invaded their area, by beating drums and jerry-cans to scare them.
 
Talking to Radio Emmanuel through telephone, area sub-chief Awaha Sam said the community that was found unaware by the invading locust resorted to beating drums and Jeri cans to send away the pests.  
 
Meanwhile, Lina Hidita, a woman in Labalwa whose part of the grain was eaten by locust appealed to the responsible authorities to rescue the community in Labalwa.
 
According to Hidita, the population will not have enough to feed on if immediate intervention is not considered.
 
Last week, an official in the State ministry of Agriculture and Forestry told Radio Emmanuel that his team planned to visit locust invaded areas of Magwi to assess the situation and find better ways of dealing with the insect.
 
However, efforts by Radio Emmanuel to connect with responsible authorities to find out what has been done to the Labalwa community and other locus invaded areas has been fruitless.
