The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Field Office in Rumbek has conducted a one day panel discussion on the role of women in promoting human rights and peace in Lakes State.

The training focused on women’s representation in the revitalized peace agreement and their expectations in the new government, Radio Good News reports.

UNMISS Representative John Ozeagbe says women have rights to participate in the on-going peace process despite cultural hindrances.

Mr. Ozeagbe wonders what women are doing concerning human rights abuses.

He urges them to be proactive and fulfil the 35 percent affirmative action in the government of national unity and grass roots.

John Ozeagbe was speaking during the opening of the workshop on Tuesday in Rumbek.
