Catholic Bishop of Yei Erkolano Lodu Tombe on Wednesday stressed through CRN that politics should not be a source of confusion in the country.

He said South Sudanese need peace, reconciliation, but they are confused by the politicians.

‘The people want reconciliation, people want unity and they want to live together and politics should not be a cause of confusion with the people; so people ask for reconciliation, unity, but they are confused by the politics; the people of South Sudan are very resilient; surely we are left to fight each other not because we want to fight; politics and parties are the cause of this confusion’, Bishop Lodu insists.

The Catholic prelate called on citizens to have hope in God because He is the only one who can change the hearts of the leaders towards peace.

‘We should be optimistic, if we are not positive, then we the civilians or even the churches will be contributing to the continuation of bad relationship that can lead to war; so we have to be positive that peace is signed and we have to keep it and maintain it; God’s power is stronger than human power; if we hope in God, He will change the minds and hearts and attitude of people towards peace for this country,’ he pleaded.

Church leaders in South Sudan have always been calling for peace since the outbreak of war in 2013, terming it as a ‘senseless war’.
