President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his new First Vice President Dr Riek Machar on Saturday vowed to work together in the revitalized transitional government of national unity to implement the peace accord.
He described himself and Dr Riek as partners in peace and the formation of new regime as an end to the long suffering of South Sudanese.
‘I want to appeal to all those who might have been disappointed and angered by the decision on the number of states, to realize that sometimes we have to sacrifice to gain something even more important’, Kiir pleaded.
The head of state asked all South Sudanese to forgive each other and reconcile.
‘Now I have forgiven my brother Dr. Riek Machar, the 1st Vice President of the Republic and I also ask for his forgiveness’, President Kiir said.
Dr Machar appreciated all forces of parties for respecting the ceasefire for almost two years.
‘I would like to reiterate my commitment and the commitment of SPLM/SPLA- IO to work closely with peace partners and particularly president Kiir Mayardit to implement the agreement in letter and spirit.’, Dr Machar vowed.
The officials were addressing diplomatic corps, tripartite countries, other political parties and guests during the swearing-in of four vice presidents in Juba on Saturday.
