Catholic Bishop of Torit Stephen Ameyu is warning priests against selling church property without getting approval from Rome.

He says no one has the right to sell any property of the church, even bishops are not allowed to sell anything without authorization from Rome.

Bishop Ameyu cites an example of a bishop in Jerusalem who was expelled due to selling land without approval from Rome.

He cautions that any religious leader involved in the sale of church property will face the canon law.

Earlier during the annual diocesan general meeting, the catholic prelate called on religious leaders to protect church assets and liabilities.

There have been some cases where priests sold out church cars without the knowledge of their bishops.

The church leader was speaking during a telephone interview from Torit.
