The body of the late veteran journalist, Albino Okeny Olak, was on Wednesday morning taken to Obo, his home village in Magwi County of Torit State, to be laid to his final rest after serving his community, South Sudan and the world at large.
Fr Martin Ochaya while presiding over a requiem mass for the late, described Okeny as a man of unity who promoted good relationships among Acholi and the neighbouring communities when he was the chairperson of Acholi.
He said the late veteran journalist was not selfish, but served South Sudan and the world with humility, sincerity and honesty.
Fr Ochaya advised the late’s children to emulate their father, who was straight forward, simple and a professional journalist with qualities of a good global leader.
Former chairperson of Acholi community, Joyce Attoo’, said late Okeny’s life was full of sacrifice and humility and brought unity to his community.
She encouraged the family of the late to take courage and that let the life of Albino Okeny shine on all faces of Acholi and South Sudanese people.
The incumbent chairperson of Acholi community, Ensidio Okot, encouraged South Sudanese to work together for peace the same way the late used to do.
He also consoled the family of late Albino Okeny to be courageous enough in this tough moment of grieve.
Acholi community elder, Johnson Juma Okot, ensured all people traveling to Magwi for the funeral and burial of the late that the security is good and the roads from Juba to Obo and to other areas in Eastern Equatoria are safe.
The organizing committee announced that the last funeral service is expected to take place on Saturday in Magwi County.
Albino Okeny Olak died in Kampala, Uganda on February 7 and arrived in Juba on Tuesday.
