The body of Veteran Journalist, Albino Okeny Olak, who died in Kampala, Uganda on February 7, arrived in Juba on Tuesday morning.
Deputy Chairperson of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan or AMDISS, Victor Keri Wani, described the late as an intelligent journalist who used soft words for training young media practitioners in their time.
He told the media at Juba airport that the late Okeny was a very simple man and a creative journalist and editor from 1975 up to 2003.
Keri explained that the late veteran journalist used to advise people to be patient and love journalism profession despite difficulties ahead.
He conveyed deep condolences to the family, Acholi community, fellow journalists and the whole country for losing a brother, colleague and a national leader.
Nhial Bol Aken, former Editor of The Citizen Newspaper, who got trained by late Albino Okeny in 1987, said the veteran journalist ‘sacrificed his life in fighting for the cause of the people of South Sudan’.
He said the late Okeny was very soft who did not want to cause problems and was respecting everybody when they started Khartoum Monitor Newspaper in 2000.
Bol said the late veteran Journalist was a great man and is a great lost to South Sudan as a whole.
The chairperson of Acholi community, Ensidio Okot paid condolences to the family of the late, the community, Torit State and the whole South Sudan for losing a leader at this tough time.
He consoled the community not to lose hope, but cry in a Christian way for God to rest his soul in eternal peace.
The late Albino Okeny Olak started working for the Radio Juba in 1975, joined The Herald Newspaper in 1987, went to The Sudan Time Newspaper, and started Khartoum Monitor English Newspaper in Khartoum, Sudan in 2000.
He worked as Communication Specialist of the World Bank office in Juba and became a minister in Imatong now Torit State.
