Wau State Girls’ Volleyball Team, champion of the fifth national unity cup, arrived home and welcomed by the state government and huge crowds after beating Juba at the end of January.
Director-General of Youth and Sport, and the Chairperson of team John Akile revealed that the state is going to practice to be ready for next year’s tournament, Voice of Hope Radio reported.
He apologized for all mistakes committed during the tournament due to some financial issues.
Akile said sport lovers should celebrate despite the economic crisis.
State Volleyball team coach, Juma Suleiman Tambo, revealed that they suffered a lot during the tournament especially in the first game, but at the end hard work gave them victory.
He appreciated all people who stood by them in Juba and in Wau through phone calls and messages because they it really helped the team performed well.
In another related development, State Police Commissioner Samuel Ajuong Chour said a collective work always results into a victory.
He urged all athletics in Wau to keep up with the spirit and maintains the status of the state.
State Minister of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Awadia Yaqoub expressed her gratitude while congratulated the team for the great achievement despite all challenges they faced during the tournament.
Acting state governor Joseph Zachariah Garang revealed that Wau is well known in culture and sports, regardless of the challenges the team had faced in the past four years.
He promised that the state continue to win national trophies.
Zachariah added that the state government is proud and so thankful to the team, for lifting it up.
The officials made the remarks in Wau after the arrival of state team on Wednesday.
