South Sudan AIDS Commission on Tuesday launched National Strategic Plan Review Retreat for HIV/AIDs in Torit State.
It’s the second time since 2017 when the launching of the document targeting government institutions, non-governmental and civil society organizations as well as private sectors.
South Sudan AIDS Commission Chairperson Dr Esterina Novello told Radio Emmanuel that the launch is to convene HIV/AIDs framework in the state.
She called on citizens to implement the document as it needs collective responsibility.
‘Actually why are we in Torit is to convene a retreat on the review for the national strategic framework for the HIV. The document is not a new document we developed it in 2017 and the strategy is suppose to run for five years but this the midterm review and at the same time also we realized that the document was not done perfectly because is lacking framework for monitoring and in such a way we don’t have baseline and target. ‘Without the target you will not be able to measure your successes or your failures that is why we gathered here from different institutions, government institution, UN agencies non-governmental organization, international and national and also the community leaders are among us here and faith based organization, CSOs and all this are actors and their presence is very crucial in the implementation of this document because this document is important for the country, it is a national document because we can say which really major the HIV responsive in this country’, the chairperson explained.
The medical officer for World Health Organization or WHO Dr Moses Mutebe Nganda said South Sudan is among countries with high infectious diseases.
He added that most of these infectious diseases are not much being attended to
‘South Sudan is one the country that is really ranks low as far as the progress in this field is concern and also I need to bring it to the notice of our people that South Sudan is among the countries that has not over the years made the progress as far as the rising number of infections the HIV infection in the country our coverage for treatment is quite low and we are rank among the countries that have least coverage within our region’, Mutebe clarified.
He added that ‘we also note that globally there have been some target that have been said that guide us where we should be going over the target, this is the year whereby we suppose to have a certain target in this area of HIV AIDS’.
