IGAD condoles passing on of Kenyan former president Arap Moi

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD joins the people and Government of Kenya to condole the second president in the history of the Republic of Kenya, Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, following his passing on Tuesday morning in Nairobi.
 
IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu in a statement recalled the pivotal role of the former president in the formation of IGAD as one of the founding fathers in 1986.
 
‘The late Mzee Moi will greatly be remembered for environmental, peace and security efforts in many parts of Africa’, the statement reads.
 
It points specially to the leading role he played in IGAD ‘for the return of Somalia to the community of nations and independence of South Sudan’.
 
‘On behalf of IGAD Member States, the Secretariat and my own behalf, I send my sincere condolences to the family, friends, the people and the Government of Kenya’, Dr. Workneh states, 
 
He adds that ‘IGAD will forever be indebted to him for his valuable contribution of the region’.
