Stop practicing early and girl child marriage, Save Orphans Life Organization or SOLO facilitator on Wednesday cautioned the community and parents to during a round table discussion at Torit Civic Engagement Center

Amato Casmiro Kanis told Radio Emmanuel that early child marriage is risky especially to the young girls, urging parents not to use it as a mean of resource.

He advised parents to send their girls to school rather than for marriage to get many cows.

‘These people who did not know that girl child marriage especially girl child marriage is rampant and dangerous, and what I have to tell the community especially parents that it is not girls that bring resources. There are several ways that people can get resources and it is a wrong concept that when you have very many girls, you are wealthy not knowing that you can be wealthy in other senses. One sense is that if you take these girls to school, the wealth will also come, it is not only through cattle used for marriage’, he clarified.

Casmiro called on communities to desist from early girl child marriage and find other resolutions to economic problems.

‘To other communities that are still practicing this, let us refrain from it because we have already seen the dangers of it and we find solution to our economic difficulties rather than selling our girls’, he urged.

While a participant during the round table discussion, Stella Itwari calls on parents to end early girl child marriage because it is a disturbing issue

‘Our parents and to our fathers to talk a lot that let us stop this girl child marriage because girl child marriage is affecting many children of South Sudan and when you go to Kenya and Uganda, you will not get a lady getting married early, you will get a lady getting married at twenty-nine years old and this is good. When you get married at eighteen and nineteen, it is not good. So to my fathers and mothers they must stop this to our children’, she also advised.

The speakers made the remarks to Radio Emmanuel in Torit.
