UN trains police on investigation and persecution in Torit

UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS is organizing a five-day training to state police on investigation and persecution skills.
 
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel UNMISS Chief of police in Eastern Equatoria Simon Yeu said the training aims at mentoring officers with examination skills and approaches to handling issues.
 
He said many police officers in Torit lack investigation skills to address cases of crimes in the state and South Sudan at large.
 
‘We are here to advise, mentor and train so we are here to advise so we realized that this SSPS need training as well as the mentorship and in area in which they are lacking in conjunction with police commissioner. We realized that they are lacking in this regards of investigation and persecution skills so that we put our hands together and we realized now we need to train them without perspective that is why we organized the workshop’, the chief explained.
 
Aiteng Humwara Jenty, a police officer in Torit, said the training has helped improve her investigative skills.
 
She indicated that she is now able to handle cases of gender-based violence in the state.
 
‘For this two days am really very grateful for the knowledge that I have received so for this workshop it has improved the areas that I was weak with this training I will be able to know the areas that I will be working with my community with other officers who are senior to me I have understood. So I have got much from my facilitators so it will help me to work in my department as well to handle the cases especially like investigation the roles of the investigators and also on how to handle the social gender-based violence as well it has really help me’, the officer appreciated.
 
Meanwhile Director of National Passport and Migration in Torit Major General John Mading enlightened citizens on how to handle laws and regulation.
 
He calls on citizens to report any criminal case to the police for solution.
 
‘What we are going to do is to enlighten you with laws and regulation of how to be with us we are also tell them that we are for you we work because of you without you we have no work to do so you should not fear us we shall not target you unless when the law is in need of you and also when something happened we also bring you to the law and it is solve it amicable you should not fear when you have any problems come to police you should not fear when you are arrested you explain your problem and they charge and the police will solve your issue’, he noted
 
The training started on Monday and will end on this coming Friday.
