Women in Torit have embarked on bread baking as a business to sustain their families.
Peter, a resident of Hai Inkas says baking bread helps her earn income to provide basic needs to her children and family members.
She adds that she uses the money to pay her children’s school fees.
‘This business helps us because children are eating from, taking tea and also go to school and clothes are also being bought through the money got from this business. Meanwhile from this, we also have our mothers in the village and also our relatives. We help and send to them our support. If I prepare this bread one day I get the money cash at hand and the money can reach about six thousand and five hundred per day’, sasy one of the business woman.
Ms Rita William who also bakes bread at Hai Longute Market says the business makes her a strong independent woman.
She urges all business women in Torit to take business a priority as well as having good business language.
‘In this business, it is making me strong. I am now like a man at home. As a woman at home, there is nothing difficult or bothering me. I know I am bringing money that I use to treat my children, send them to school and if there is a problem, it is always there. if your somebody doing business, you have to be careful with what you give to a child who is sent to buy something from you’.
Another Bread seller at Omoliha Market in Torit Diana Dario who also sells charcoal says her small business assists her despite her low level of education.
‘Always like me, I am not educated. Bread is something that helps me and charcoal. Even if it is small, it helps me’.
